Remarks & Notes
Since it's supposed to be over 100 degrees in a lot of parts of the country and around the world....I thought this photo would help cool things off abit..........Back in the day.....the Green Bay and Western used to get the FORD stuff from across Lake Michigan on a car ferry......the GBW would handle across Wisconsin cross the Mississippi River at Winona and we(THE MILWAUKEE ROAD)would pick up on train 263 handle to the Twin Cities(St.Paul) where the Ford Hauler would take up to the Ford Plant between St.Paul and Minneapolis. The Ford train started in the 60's.....we got it from the GTW at Bensenville,IL.and took it to the Twin Cities....it was a very HOT train only second to the XL Special. Depending on train size 75 cars nothing but FORD products were handled unless there was room for St.Paul traffic. I remember the Milwaukee running HOT Ford specials of one to 10 cars that were shut down cars for the Ford plant......those were great trains to catch as you operated as needed meaning (disregard speed limit and operate safely)......you actually got a message to this regard.
