Remarks & Notes
On February 21, 2019, a cold storm rolled across southern California, and snow levels were predicted to be their lowest in years - or even decades. While snow did fall lower than normal (down the the 1000' level), the snow buildup on Cajon Pass was disappointing. Summit, as an elevation of 3777 feet (1167 meters) had little snow, and it was mainly on the shady north side of the hills. Crossing from Main 3 to Main 2 is westbound local L-CAL0111-21, with a nice mix of freight cars (a pleasant break from the double-stack container trains that make up 98% of the trains BNSF operates over Cajon Pass). BNSF Railway's trains originating in Barstow, CA, are dominated by 7700-series ES44DCs, many heavily tagged, and this train is no exception as 7739, 7731 and 7713 are up front, with 7725 and 7729 are the rear DPU.
