Built by EMD in January 1969, Atlanta & West Point GP40 729 was photographed in Social Circle, Georgia, in April 1975. This locomotive would eventually become Seaboard System 6649, and then CSX Transportation 6649, before being rebuilt as Union Pacific "GP38M-3" 2523. UP would eventually renumber it to UP 1023 before retiring it in November 2007. (Lloyd Neal photograph, Craig Walker collection)
