After more then 12 years or about 4400 days the ex French Railways SNCF 2-8-2 oilfired steamlocomotive 141 R # 1244 was put under steam pressure for the first time again on november 9th 2010. The 2-8-2 "Mikado" was built by Montreal Locomotive Works in 1946 and came to Switzerland to association "Mikado 1244" in 1976. Since the last run on september 5th 1998 there was much work done: Boiler and chassis revision, renewal of the cabin, new second steam generator placed, removing the boiler insulation (asbestos) and re-isolation, all boiler cover sheets replaced, complete repainting, rebuilding brake from Westinghouse to Oerlikon system, revision and renewal of tender including trucks with new paint, new tires on all 20 wheels, extension Integra Signum train protection system and installation ETM-S and much minor things.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom seen beauty of railroads from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding sunset to sunrise surprises!)
