BIG MOVE: On Friday, August 23, 2019, the Batten Kill Railroad took delivery of two large steel bridge beams at Eagle Bridge, NY for the nearby State Route 67 bridge replacement project. The bridge spans both the Batten Kill’s tracks and the Owl Kill. Here, contractors use a crane to both lift and turn one of the beams for placement onto a flat car as Batten Kill Alco RS-3 #4116 stands by. This move was part of a lucrative contract with the state, which will undoubtedly provide a great boost to the shortline by helping to cover the cost of maintaining the right-of-way.
