Union Pacific 4-8-8-4 4014 rolls down the old Palmdale Cutoff (UP’s Mojave Subdivision) as UP train P-YRWC-09 heads to West Colton Yard from Yermo, California, on October 9, 2019. This location, technically San Bernardino, is known as Slover on the railroad. As the “Big Boy” steam locomotive approaches the Mill Street overpass, the engine began belching black smoke, much to the delight of the handful of railfans recording the train’s journey.
