At BNSF Railway’s yard in Barstow, California, are strings of excess locomotives. The string seen in this photo is about half of the locomotives in storage, many of them being placed there in the last week or two. They all appeared to be Dash 9-44CWs, and anywhere from 21 to 19 years of age. Curiously, in the string pictured here, the two Dash 9s closest to the camera, 4880 and 5483, were still idling for at least two days, although the rest of them were not. Oddly, BNSF 5483’s rear headlight was illuminated as well. At BNSF Railway’s yard in Barstow, California, are strings of excess locomotives.
