Brand new british highspeed trains, built by Hitachi of Japan, in Edinburgh Waverley station. On the right 802 # 206 of Trans Pennine Express (TPE), branded "Nova 1", as test train (probably driver training) towards Newcastle over the east coast mainline. On the left timetabled 800 # 111 of the LNER (London North Eastern Railway), branded "Azuma", departing at 12.00 to London Kings Cross as "1E14" train (393 miles/632 kilometer). The 802 is a 5 car train, the 800 a 9 car train, both bi-modal with diesel and electric traction from 25 kV 50 Hz AC. The 802 are built in Kasado (Japan) and assembled in Pistoia (Italy), while the 800 are built in the Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, works of Hitachi. Trans Pennine Express (TPE) will receive 19 five-car Class 802 sets to operate primarily on the North Transpennine Line between Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle and Edinburgh. The timetabled service to and from Edinburgh has not started yet.
