Remarks & Notes
"Pointe St-Charles Switcher at Station de Pompage Riverside" The Pointe St-Charles Switcher passes by the Former Riverside Pumping Station on the Canadian National Wharf Spur just before crossing Riverside Street in Montreal. This pumping station was one of the first two such facilities built on the Island of Montreal, in 1887 and was used to stop the floods that regularly affect Montreal in the 19th century. It is the oldest structure of its kind still surviving through the city's water and sewer system. The building is now occupied by Les Forges de Montréal, a non-profit organization whose mission is to preserve, raise awareness of and pass on the skills of the traditional blacksmithing trade.
