My seven year old daughter is a massive fan of the Big Boy. When I mentioned the steam behemoth was going to be fairly close to home, she flipped out and begged me to take her. Friday after work I packed the kids, and headed for a hotel in Goodland, KA. Saturday morning we grabbed breakfast and drove south to Sharon Springs, KA. We spent the rest of the day following the Big Boy east. The huge 4-8-8-4 put on quite a show on the steep hills of Western, KA and Eastern Colorado. In this photo the the train is climbing the 1% grade up the "tall" Firstview Hill. The small burg at the Summit is named Firstview, as it is the first glance of the Rocky Mountains as one heads west.
