If this had been three decades ago, a different black/orange paint scheme would have appeared out of the darkness.
A chance run-in with a UP track inspector at the tunnel's East End yielded an opportunity not usually handed to one on a silver platter. The employee gave me and several friends a heads up about an approaching eastbound train, so we naturally decided to wait around. Within 30 minutes of setting up, bright lights lit up the pitch black interior of the 6.2-mile tunnel, and the distinctive orange nose of a BNSF GEVO poked out into the sunlight soon after.
Not
just heritage schemes, not just commemorative schemes - this album is devoted to some of the world's most interesting paint schemes, past or present.
