On the platform at Rusk. Tremont & Gulf #30 sits on the platform at the beautiful depot in Rusk, Texas with her photo freight, awaiting clearance for a westbound departure to Palestine. Rusk is the eastern terminus of the present-day Texas State Railroad and is quite an interesting place to visit. Built on the grounds of a city park, the complex features the ornate rock depot structure that you see behind the train. Inside are a gift shop, movie theater and cafe. Outside, just a hundred yards or so from the depot is a beautiful lake, with lakeside pavilion and picnic facilities. On down the line behind the train is the Rusk Yard, where the trains are turned and where the steam locomotives reside and are maintained. Passengers laying over between trains at Rusk certainly have more than enough to keep them occupied during their visit to this place.
