Milwaukee Road's Beverly station sits abandoned and forlorn in the dusty climate near the east bank of the Columbia River in central Washington. By fall 1979 the railroad had no need for the depot, but still had several months of operations left on the transcontinental extension shown in front of the station. There was still a passing siding, and trains often rated helpers in addition to remote radio controlled units to make the climb from here west to Kittitas. That grade exceeded the climb up to Snoqualmie Summit west of Easton.
