Remarks & Notes
Times has truly changed at East-End! It's a bright and warm summer Saturday morning in downtown Chattanooga and most of the urban community is slowly coming to life on what was going to be a very plentiful September day. CSX Q211-09 is easing around the curve at the end of the double track main at control-point East-End (MP WA-135.6 East End Ave) as the loaded Greenville bound vehicle train work it's way south on the Historic Western & Atlantic Sub. Of course this in the year 2016, and a lot has changed since this photo was taken. The Iconic US&S search lights signal that guarded the East-End block as since been replace with the new Safetrans Signals as part of the PTC upgrades. It was also in the summer of 2018 Norfolk Southern, CSX, and a few contractors undertook a major realignment project just about a half a mile from East-End. With the double Diamond at 23rd St was removed, and replaced by high speed switches has done away with traffic lag, and serious back log. in addition to those changes CSX is now control 1 track up to the interlock, as the ex main 2 train (Q211 is using) was cut from the W&A, and added to the Chattanooga Terminal giving Norfolk Southern a triple track advantage through the terminal. 2019 the Chattanooga Terminal Tower in the background which stood guard for traffic in, and around this area was demolish after operation as since cease for 30+ years. CT-Tower was used in the final years as a Signal Maintainer office for the area, and since CTC being controlled at an office space in Knoxville,TN then, now Atlanta, GA their was no need for the tower.
