Est Railway 4-6-0 No 3.628 at La Villette shed, Paris in 1935. There were originally 390 of these four-cylinder compound locos built for the Est Railway in 1901-12. They became SNCF type 230B and three of the last survivors starred in the film The Train with Burt Lancaster shot in 1964. Sadly none of the three engines survived. Photo by the late George Grigs. |
