SNCF prepares some TGVs of the most recent 800 series for service in Spain, in competition with RENFE on the Spanish high-speed lines. Madrid-Barcelona is said to be the first such service. The train sets are first sent to Alstom in Belfort for modifications, including installation of the Spanish cab signal and other safety systems, etc. The trains are moved to other maintenance shops for various operations, then go to Perpignan to join Spain. The picture shows one of these Spain-bound units moved on the Belfort Strasbourg Nancy Paris Ourcq itinerary (and next to Perpignan), with a true CC 72000 in charge. The CC 72074 is one of the last operational units of this prestigious series. It is used only for non-commercial purposes. The train is seen passing the Saint Denis Canal on its way back from Paris Gare de l'Est station to Paris Ourcq maintenance shop and yard, where it will spend the night before resuming its journey south to Perpignan and Spain.
