Union Pacific’s transcontinental route west only spends a few miles in far northeast Colorado following the watercourses of the South Platte River and then Lodgepole Creek while going through the town of Julesburg in the process. On October 9, 2008, UP 4-6-6-4 Challenger No. 3985 accelerates a passenger train out of Julesburg.
