Remarks & Notes
A unique piece of Colorado history, the "Galloping Goose", came into being due to the struggles of the Rio Grande Southern, a narrow gauge line which went from Ridgway, Colorado to Durango, Colorado. In order to cut costs, the RR began to use "motors" built in the RR's shop in Ridgway from various car-bodies. Of the 7 originally built, 6 still survive. Here is RGS Motor #5 near MP 305 on the Cumbres & Toltec. CaƱada Jarosita is to the right. Lovingly restored and operated by the Galloping Goose Historical Society in Dolores Co.

The narrow-gauge steam line from Chama climbing Cumbres Pass has exceptional scenery and is easy to chase.
