Remarks & Notes |
The crew of this 0700 Proctor switch job have the dynamic brakes howling on their three veteran EMD SD40 products as they fight gravity carefully maneuvering R92181 13 and its heavy train of 132 steamy Minntac loads down the steep 2.2% grade of Proctor Hill at Spirit Mountain. Currently, the ship season is closed but trains don't stop running as the loads of iron ore are dumped and stockpiled at the docks in Duluth until freighters resume normal shipping operations in late March. The train will spend several hours at the bottom of hill dumping at the docks before returning upgrade back to Proctor with the empties ready to be hauled back to the mines for another load in a never ending cycle. Between this trio of locomotives, a combined 135 years of railroad experience has been racked up as these three live out their golden years serving Canadian National in Minnesota's Iron Range region. |
