Remarks & Notes
On a sunny Spring 1948 day in Kansas, R. G. Janzen photographed a typical scene in Norton, Kansas. A Rock Island R-67b class Northern was captured as it passed eastward through town. Rock Island 4-8-4 5061 was built in Schenectady, NY, in 1929 by the American Locomotive Company (ALCO). RI had the largest fleet of 4-8-4s in the US, and this class had 69" drivers and Baker valve gear. (R. G. Janzen Photo; Craig Walker Collection)
