The Conductor (or the Assistant Conductor?) on Amtrak train 19, the southbound Crescent (running 1 hour 15 minutes behind schedule), has lined the hand-operated switch into the station and given the engineer aboard P42DC 198 a highball to proceed. She must remain in place until the train has passed in order to line the switch back to the CSX mainline while the Amtrak train loads and unloads passengers. Then, at the east end of the station, this process repeats itself. (Birmingham, Alabama – October 4, 2015)
