Almost everything was new in the Montparnasse station in 1976. The Montparnasse Tower in the background was 3 years-old, the Corail passenger cars had started to replace the fleet of SNCF green passenger cars since 1975, and the surrounding buildings had been completed in the early 1970's. The dual voltage BB 25219 was not so new, as it was 10 years old then (built March 1966). It was ready to lead its train to Rennes, first under 1.5KV DC catenary until Le Mans, then under 25KV 50Hz between Le Mans and Rennes.
Today, the station has changed a lot. Everything is covered with a garden above the tracks. These tracks are almost entirely buried below a thick concrete ceiling. The BB 25200 are gone, and the Corail passenger cars are living their last years of service. A few are still operating on the Paris Montparnasse lines, on TER trains (Regional Express Trains) to Le Mans for some time, before they are replaced by new self-propelled trains.
