Remarks & Notes |
Mass Coastal Railroad operates the energy train five days a week. The empty train travels from Rochester onto Cape Cod where it picks up trash from a facility in Yarmouth. The loaded train returns to Rochester where the trash is burned to fuel a power plant. The empty train is known as MC-1 while the loaded train is MC-2. An earlier than usual MC-1 is seen crossing the Cape Cod Canal Railroad Bridge in Bourne. The bridge which first opened in 1935 for the New Haven Railroad is controlled by the Army Corps of Engineers and marine traffic has the right of way. The GP9 was built new in 1956 for the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. |
