It's the 3rd of October, 2004 and the final day of public running for the original operator of the Georgetown Loop. I rode the first train of the day out of Silver Plume, and then spent the rest of the day hiking the line and taking photographs. Trains were packed, with two trains running continuously throughout the day. Here we see the meet at Hall Tunnel, with double-headed shays #12 and #14 headed towards Silver Plume while #40 has taken the siding, but will shortly continue backing its train down towards the Devil's Gate station. Note the black wreaths and black bunting on the locomotives commemorating the sad occasion. It would be 15 years or so before 40 would once again return to this spot.
