Remarks & Notes
In 1982, the Delaware & Hudson had 200 of its aging 50’ box cars rebuilt and modernized with cushioned underframes. At least part of the cost was underwritten by the state of New York, with the requirement that they be used as rolling advertisements for the state’s “I Love New York” tourism campaign. The cars received unique DHNY reporting marks instead of the usual D&H (they used ampersands back in the pre-digital days). A few, including this one at Conklin, New York, also received fluorescent Operation Lifesaver logos.
