By the early 1970 the Boston & Maine was retiring the GE 44-Tonners that had been used in light switching assignments around the system. Four of them were lined up out of service outside the Billerica, MA, shop awaiting their fate. The B&M had ten of these little engines, the last of which, 119, was retired in the late 1970s.
