130 years and still going strong. On a warm spring morning, Southern Consolidation #154 does what she's been doing for well over a century, taking a local freight east out of Knoxville, delivering loads to industry in Eastern Tennessee. Southern 154 is an 1890 product of the Schenectady Locomotive Works and is the oldest Southern Railway Locomotive that can still operate under her own power. She "served the south" for 63 years before spending the next half century as a park engine in Knoxville. She was restored in 2010 by the Gulf & Ohio Railways and operates today on the Three Rivers Rambler, hauling tourist excursions. On this particular day back in April of 2011, I photographed her with a freight consist along Asbury Road, just outside Knoxville, TN, performing as the main attraction for a Historic Transport Preservation (HTP) Charter.
