The Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden, Colorado held its public debut of Rio Grande Southern No. 20, culminating a 14-year, $1.5 million restoration for the narrow gauge 4-6-0 built in 1899 by the Schenectady Locomotive Works. Originally built for the Florence & Cripple Creek Railroad, it was bought in 1915 by the Rio Grande Southern after the F&CC stopped operations, and the RGS operated the locomotive until the 1950s. Restoration began in 2006, and included 12 years undergoing work in Strasburg, Pa., before the locomotive was disassembled and moved the museum last year, where the restoration was completed.
