A Los Angeles Metropolitan Transit Authority L Line train departs the downtown Azusa station as it makes it way to East Los Angeles. This train, led by MTA 722; is comprised of AnsaldoBreda P2550 light rail vehicles. This section of the line was completed in 2016, extending the MTA’s Gold Line to 31 miles in length, with the northern end at Azusa’s Citrus Community College and Azusa Pacific University and proceeds to the City of Hope Medical Center, Arcadia, Old Town Pasadena, the Southwest Museum, Chinatown, Los Angeles Union Station (with connections to more MTA rail and bus lines, along with Metrolink and Amtrak trains), Grand Park, Little Tokyo/Arts District and Mariachi Plaza in East Los Angeles. In early 2020, the Gold Line was renamed the L Line. This line sees both these P2550 LRVs and Kinkisharyo P3010 LRVs. As this train departs, the old 1946-built Santa Fe passenger station can be seen in the background, next to Metrolink’s Pasadena Sub – the former Santa Fe Second District mainline – which sees no Metrolink traffic but is still used by a BNSF local.
