Investing in History. The Genesee Valley Transportation Co., Inc. Delaware-Lackawanna recently received this Alco HH660 that was built in 1940 Schenectady, NY for the Delaware, Lackawanna, and Western Railways (DL&W) as #409. One of what is thought to be five former DL&W diesels, three of them now belong to the DL. The engine is slated for restoration and service on the railroad. Seen on the night of Sunday, August 16, 2020 at the DL's Scranton, Pennsylvania shop, its appearance shows the effects of being nearly 80 years old, but the engine is still very much mechanically in tact.
Don Colangelo, retired CMO (and sometimes piano player) at the DL Scranton shops cared for the many ALCOs, MLWs and a few EMDs that passed in and out of South Scranton and Von Storch shop doors.
Here is a look and many of those units.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
