Illinois Central Dash 8-40CW 2459 is the former LMSX 732. In the mid-90s, LMS leased a group of these Dash 8s to Conrail and Canadian National subsidiary Illinois Central – LMS 700-739 – with the plan being that these engines would shift between the two roads as seasonal power needs arose. When LMS was dissolved in 1999, the fleet was divvied up between the two roads, with those going to Illinois Central retaining, for the most part, the blue paint but receiving IC reporting marks, new numbers and the CN "Wet Noodle" logo of IC's parent company. CN and its subsidiaries (IC, GTW, etc.) mix their power freely, both in Canada and the US. (Council Bluffs, Iowa – May 14, 2013). Thanks to D. Carleton for additional information on the LMS leasers!
