Southern Pacific train 2-834, the second section of an eastbound (compass south) freight that originated in Santa Barbara and was bound for Los Angeles Yard, passes by the Chatsworth station, in the far northwestern corner of the city of L.A., and as it does, the engineer is preparing to snag orders off the upper hoop. The first section of train 834 was due out of Santa Barbara at 11:30 pm, not long after the westbound (compass north) train 75, the Lark, had passed through, and would routinely meet train 71, the westbound Coast Mail here at Chatsworth at 2:05 am. This second-section of train 834 most likely had a meet with the westbound Starlight before passing through Chatsworth this morning. SP F3A 6149, built as SP 6124D by EMD in October 1948, leads train 2-834. SP 6149 will be sold back to EMD in 1964. (Los Angeles, California – August 1952).
