The Pan Am OCS is seen exiting the East Portal of the 4.75 mile long Hoosac Tunnel. The train is carrying potential buyers of the railroad and is traveling to Maine. The Hoosac Tunnel is one of the most famous locations on the system. Completed in 1877, it became known as "The Bloody Pit after some 196 workers perished in the course of its 26-year construction.
