Remarks & Notes
In September 1991, the Alsace Region inaugurated a new accelerated regional service between Strasbourg, Mulhouse and Basel. With the two Departments forming the Alsace region, a financing plan had been put in place to increase the authorized speed on the line of the Alsace plain, presenting a more than favorable profile. It was essentially a question of improving the signaling, to reinforce the track and to remove all level crossings. Among the pioneers in the management of regional services, Alsace wished in this way to attract a different clientele to its trains than that of traditional captives, schoolchildren, students, by focusing on comfort and speed. Thus was born TER 200, the first regional train running at 200 km/h. The Region also financed the modernization of 16 Corail coaches, while the SNCF allocated its new Sybic BB26000's on all the implemented round trips. The time saved varied depending on the traffic between 10 and 20 minutes compared to conventional trains.
