After getting to operate at mainline speeds – 40 to 55 miles per hour – on Metrolink’s Orange Sub, train LOA32 is back on UP’s Santa Ana Industrial Lead and operating at the prescribed 5 miles per hour speed limit, which will double to 10 MPH in another mile. The slower speed, however, is helpful here as affluent Orange County, as with so many parts of this once great country, now resembles a Third World Country as there are homeless encampments along the UP’s right of way, as UP GP60 1150 tiptoes along with its 10 car train. This branch averages .57 trains per day (there are just two round trips per week), so these encampments are relatively undisturbed. (Santa Ana, California – October 12, 2020).
