Remarks & Notes
Originally the CB&Q built a bridge over the Mississippi River and Quincy Bay in 1868. The bridges pictured here are over the Quincy Bay. The lower bridge was built in 1868 and used 1867 stone arches. It look like this was the B-Line connection track for the CB&Q to reach the Carthage Subdivision and trackage in Quincy. The original mainline from West Quincy into Quincy and east to Galesburg swung south and crossed the Quincy Bay 1/2 mile south. The lower bridge was abandoned when the CB&Q did a big line relocation to the current location bypassing Quincy in 1960. The lower bridge was then used by a Narrow Gauge tourist railroad until 1984, and then converted to road used to access Quinsippi Island which you can still do today. The train is a westbound autorack empty bound for KC from Northtown with a lone old Dash 9 for power.
