800 tons of Berkshire muscle. Shortly after dawn, Nickel Plate Road #765 and Pere Marquette #1225 charge across the lush farmland of Henderson, Michigan with a 31-car freight consist during an August, 2009 Lerro Productions photo event. The serendipitous presence of the only two operable Lima Berkshire Locomotives at the Steam Railroading Institute in Owosso, MI, along with the help of a cooperative host railroad, enabled what has to be one of the most impressive photo freights in recent memory, and one that would be very difficult (not to mention expensive) to ever re-create. This photo was taken along the Great Lakes Central Railroad, on private farm land off Chipman Road, in the town of Henderson, Michigan, with the kind permission of the land owner. Mother nature cooperated this day, and the crews from the Ft. Wayne Railroad Historical Society and the Steam Railroading Institute put on a great show for the assembled photographers.
Images from two Lerro Productions events, 10 years apart: 2009 and 2019. The 2009 featured a 31-car freight and NKP 765. The 2019 trip showcased just the 1225 with the Steam Railroading Institute's passenger consist.
