Remarks & Notes
Deckers Creek Bridge

Located on the "Caperton Trail" in Morgantown, WV, this is an historic 19th century Warren through truss bridge originally built for the Fairmont, Morgantown & Pittsburgh Railroad.

This bridge saw service into not only the B&O years, but CSX as well. Today it is now part of "The Caperton Trail" which spans the north-south length of Morgantown and Star City. The paved rail-trail is named after (you guessed it!) a politician, in this case, a former governor of West Virginia who had served from 1989 to 1997. Plaques have been placed on the bridge letting patrons of the trail know the history behind the bridge - namely that it is owned by the Morgantown Board of Parks and Recreation, aka "BOPARC". Fascinating, huh? This part of corridor, located, along the Monongahela River, was abandoned in the early 1990s, following a rockslide that the railroad elected not to repair.

For a photo of the bridge in use by the "Chessie System, back in 1985, taken by fellow RP contributor, George Hamlin, click here. Or, for a wider perspective with the station, click here for a photo from RP member John Benner.
