Remarks & Notes
In 1972, Seaboard Coast Line, Frisco and the Santa Fe operated a special promotional train from Richmond, California, to Richmond, Virginia to promote improved transcontinental service, thanks to an improved ATSF-SLSF connection in Avard OK, SCL’s Bicentennial U36B 1776 was selected as power, and Santa Fe painted 133 and their Display Car 5005 to match, as did Frisco with their caboose 1776. ATSF 5005 was originally Smoker-Chair car 2952, later renumbered 3122. It was later reconfigured as a Lounge-Dorm and numbered 1527. In 1967 it was rebuilt into a Display Car and renumbered to 5005, and painted tan to be used to commemorate the centennial of the Chisholm Trail. IN 1970 5005 was repainted dark blue and gray for the Panorama of Progress display before receiving this red, white and blue scheme for use on this special cross-country train. It would be renumbered one more time, to ATSF 87, following this trip in 1973. (Barstow, California – November 15, 1972)
