In a bitterly cold wintry scene, a train of loaded coal hoppers fly into Elkhorn Tunnel outside of Maybeury, WV on January 28, 2021 as they head east to Bluefield, WV over the famous Elkhorn Grade of the Norfolk & Western. Completed in 1950 by the Norfolk & Western, Elkhorn Tunnel served as a more efficient route for traffic heading east and west through the mountains of West Virginia enroute for the ports of Norfolk, VA or the terminals at Portsmouth, OH.
