A Twin Cities & Western train gets underway after doing some work at the elevator in North Redwood, MN. The small stone marker includes a plaque honoring Richard W. Sears of Sears & Roebuck fame. He was the depot agent here in the late 1800's. The story goes that a shipment of watches to a local wholesaler was rejected. Sears inquired into how much they cost. He realized that if he bought the watches himself and sold them to railroad employees, he would make a nice profit. This plan was so successful that he moved to Minneapolis, started a mail-order watch sales and repair business, and the rest is history.
