B&O EMC EA No. 51B&O EA No. 51 was the first streamlined diesel locomotive delivered to the B&O in 1937. It set a stylistic precedent for future generations of EMC /EMD streamlined diesels.
After a remarkable 5 year cosmetic restoration, it seems a shame to see the historic locomotive shoved into a dark corner of the North Shop with a view only of the impressive nose visible. Hopefully, like other museums, they'll consider bringing her outdoors for special events, aside from the one time recent weekend move from the roundhouse to this "permanent" location next to the tender of C&O 2-6-6-6 No. 1604 - another locomotive difficult to appreciate oddly facing the rear of the shop. Incidentally, C&O
No. 1604 is actually 4 years newer than the EA unit! Click here for a "before" shot of No. 51, in a location that offered just a little more space to appreciate her.
