That title may apply to the paint job on the Amtrak P42DC and baggage car, but that’s only a part of the heritage in this image. The Amish have long eschewed technology, using horse-drawn buggies in lieu of automobiles, and draught horses or mules to pull farm implements around the fields instead of tractors. Technology is slowly creeping in, as it is not uncommon to see a young Amish person on a cell phone. Huge hay and straw bales created by modern balers that are still pulled by mules are loaded onto mule-drawn wagons by skid steers. Slowly the traditions are eroding, but for now, two young men in straw hats plowing a field using methods from another century still pause to wave at a locomotive painted to remember a much more recent bygone era.
