Remarks & Notes |
It is now three weeks and a day until the final run of a passenger revenue-earning HST on the Midland Mainline.
Still shining in it's new coat of paint, 43274 the only power car to wear the new East Midlands Railway colours has just departed from East Midlands Parkway working the 17:45 Nottingham - St Pancras, in a scene dominated by the 1968 built Ratcliffe Power Station.
The HST or Intercity 125 was introduced to the Midland route in 1983 and will bow out of traffic here on 15th May 2021.
With the reduction in the use of fossil fuels as a power source Ratcliffe Power Station also now has a finite life; it will cease generating no later than 2025 and will by this point be the last coal fired power station in the UK.
You can find more photos of the run down of the Midland HST's on my blog here. |
