"Midnight Blue at Westchester Avenue"
During the early morning hours of June 26th, 2021, Amtrak P42DC #100, painted in "Midnight Blue", leads eastbound "Night Owl" train 66 under the abandoned NYW&B Westchester Ave Station on Amtrak's Hell Gate Line. 100 is one of six 50th Anniversary Commemorative Painted locomotives which features all new, one-of-a-kind paint schemes. Midnight Blue celebrates the dedication and commitment of Amtrak employees moving people around the clock and across the nation.
Westchester Ave Station was designed by Cass Gilbert & completed using terra cotta detailing in 1908. Service ceased in 1937, but due to the way the station was constructed, it still remains today, suspended over Amtrak's Hell Gate Line which is a small section of the Northeast Corridor.
