| Former Southern Pacific class GS-4 #4449, a 4-8-4 "Northern" is seen on display at the Oregon Rail Heritage Center in Portland.
The locomotive was built by the Lima Locomotive Works in Lima, Ohio in May, 1941 and was painted in the orange "Daylight" scheme to haul Southern Pacific passenger trains in California. The locomotive is fully operational and is the only of its class remaining. In 1976 the locomotive traveled the country for the Freedom Train event as part of the bicentennial of the nation. |
