Remarks & Notes
In 2007, there were several celebrations for 125 years of the Gotthard railway, openend in 1882. A spectacular sight was the wrapping of some objects along the line in red fabric during some days. Here we can see the church of Wassen, finished in 1734, and famous because you can see it three times from the train during the ride over the loops of Wassen. We are here on the middle level, where the trains on the way up are running in the "wrong direction". In the background you can see the portal of the Entschigtal avalanche protection gallery on the upper level. Locomotive Ae 4/7 # 10997, built in 1933 by SLM and MFO for the SBB, withdrawn in 1996 and now privately owned, then based in Biasca, now in Payerne, is on a charter run over the Gotthard mountain line, sold for cab rides.
