Together again after 146 years. Sharing the two remaining stalls in the old D&RG Roundhouse in Chama, New Mexico are two, narrow-gauge, wood-burning Baldwin steamers that were literally built side-by-side in Philadelphia, some 146 years ago. On the left is Carson & Tahoe Lumber & Fluming Co. #1 "Glenbrook", a 2-6-0 that is now owned and operated by the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City, NV. On the right is Eureka & Palisade #4, a 4-4-0 type that is owned and operated Mr. Daniel Markoff of Las Vegas, NV. These two, similar size engines are believed to have been on the erecting floor at Baldwin at the same time in 1875....and then went their separate ways for nearly a century and a half. They were re-united for the first time in August of 2021 at the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad's Victorian Iron Horse Roundup event, which featured 5 narrow gauge engines, all of which were built before 1900. While all five of the featured guests were beautiful locomotives, these two shiny beauties were clearly the belles of the ball, double-heading together on a number of special excursions, which took them over the entire 64-mile railroad between Chama, NM and Antonito, CO.
