Remarks & Notes
Fortunately, for those with an affinity for the old Western Pacific Railroad, the heritage of Webb Asset Management GP35 3509 is still pretty obvious, as WP was the only railroad with the widely-spaced numberboards on the cab (to accommodate a large single-bulb headlight) and, on the rear, this engine still has the large barrel-style headlight housing that WP used as well. Built by EMD in April 1965 as Western Pacific 3013, this engine became Union Pacific 792 following the UP’s acquisition of the WP in 1982. UP 792 was eventually sold off, becoming Blue Mountain Railroad 792. WAMX eventually acquired it from BLMR, and numbered it 3509. It worked out of Oceanside CA for a number of years on lease to Watco’s Pacific Sun Railroad, from October 2008 until October 2020. When photographed here, it was leased to the Elwood Joliet & Southern Railway. (Crest Hill, Illinois – September 26, 2021) Photographed on railroad property with permission and full PPE and Covid precautions.
