Remarks & Notes
With the San Bernardino Mountains looming in the distance, BNSF train Q-PEALAC1-29A has just descended Cajon Pass and entered the Los Angeles Basin, a very large and generally flat region of southern California stretching from San Bernardino to Santa Monica, and from Chatsworth in the northwest to Laguna Beach in the southeast. At this point, named Verdemont on the railroad, this train has just 65 miles remaining in its journey from Pearland, Texas, to Los Angeles. Norfolk Southern AC44C6M 4000 (the former NS Dash 9-40C 8799), one of two NS locomotives wearing this distinctive blue and gray scheme, is leading the Q-PEALAC this day. When it first visited southern California, on October 25 (just eight days earlier) it was a trailing unit and it was raining, so today’s westbound trip was a huge improvement!
